My favourite writing tools

My favorite writing tools

Everyone has their favorite tools to do their writing and I'm no different.
I use three document writing programs, two them are free and the other is a paid tool.
I use LibreOffice for my off-line writing.

It's free and it's less bulky than Microsoft office although I have used Microsoft office and I do like it. I probably might use Microsoft office if I were concerned about having more tools at my disposal but my writing routine is fairly simple when I write fiction.

I basically just write into the text document in LibreOffice and I can save it in whatever format I like. I realize I said if I'm off-line..
Most the time I'm online and I work in Google Docs. Google Docs is amazing. It has all kinds of functionality but what I like most about it is that it instantly saves all my work on the cloud. Everything I write is instantly saved and the earlier versions of it are kept as well. Now I no longer have to worry about moving my documents from one computer to another or losing them.

I've been working Google Docs for quite a while now and I have never lost a document. That wasn't the case before where I was always losing parts of my document. It was so frustrating. I'm so glad that I discovered Google Docs.

I also like to use scrivener. With scrivener I can breakup my document into different sections and move them around. That becomes pretty useful when you're moving scenes and bits of a document and dialogue and action from one place to another, rearranging your story as it were.

Like a lot of people I don't use scrivener to create or format my books I have another program for that but I do like the fact that it has that functionality. I'm one of those people that always likes to have a backup so if my vellum program doesn't work I can always back up to scrivener. It gives you peace of mind even if nothing ever happens.

And that said I like to keep things pretty simple. I've tried other programs and I've tried using other methods but so far this is the one that's been the least complicated and the least worrisome for for me.
